How to Freeze Spinach and Leafy Greens the Right Way
We all buy that giant plastic clamshell of spinach with good intentions, only to watch it turn to liquid sludge three days later. To freeze spinach and other leafy greens like kale or chard, you have two great options.
Method 1: The Smoothie Pucks (Raw)
This is perfect for freeze leafy greens for smoothies.
Blend: Put your raw spinach into a blender with a tiny bit of water. Blend until smooth.
Pour: Pour the green puree into ice cube trays.
Freeze: Once solid, crack them out into a freezer bag.
Use: Trow 2-3 "green cubes" into your morning smoothie. You won't taste them!
Method 2: Blanching (For Cooking)
If you want to use the spinach in lasagna or dips later:
Blanch: Dip leaves in boiling water for 30 seconds.
Shock: Move immediately to ice water.
Squeeze: Squeeze out ALL the water. You will be left with a small green ball.
Wrap: Wrap tight and freeze.
Now you have portion-controlled greens ready to boost any meal!
