How to Freeze Pizza (Homemade or Takeout) and Reheat It Perfectly
Whether it is a few slices of delivery pepperoni or a homemade margarita pie, pizza is one of the best foods to freeze. The problem is usually how people reheat it. If you freeze pizza correctly, you can have a "fresh-baked" slice in minutes.
The Wrap Method
Don't just throw the cardboard box in the freezer. Air circulates in the box and creates freezer burn on the cheese and pepperoni.
Cool: Let the pizza cool completely.
Individual Wrap: Wrap each slice tightly in plastic wrap. This is the moisture barrier.
Foil Layer: For long-term storage (over a month), wrap the plastic-wrapped slice in aluminum foil.
Bag It: Place all slices in a gallon freezer bag.
How to Reheat Frozen Pizza (Don't Microwave It!)
To reheat frozen pizza, skip the microwave unless you want a rubbery, soggy crust.
Option 1: The Oven (Best for Quantity)
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Place frozen slices directly on the rack (for crispy crust) or on a baking sheet.
Bake for 10-12 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
Option 2: As Skillet (Best for Speed)
Place the frozen slice in a dry non-stick skillet over medium-low heat.
Cover the skillet with a lid (trap the heat to melt the cheese).
Cook for 5-8 minutes. The bottom gets crispy while the top steams slightly.
With these tricks, your freezer pizza will taste better than it did cold the next morning!
