How to Freeze Bacon So You Can Use Just One Slice at a Time

Buying bacon in bulk packs is economical, but unless you plan to eat 2 pounds of bacon at once, freezing the whole package is a mistake. You end up having to thaw the entire block just to get three slices for breakfast.

To freeze bacon efficiently, you need the "Accordion Method."

The Accordion (Scroll) Method

  1. Prep: Lay out a long sheet of wax paper or parchment paper.
  2. Place: Lay the bacon slices on the paper individually, leaving a small gap between each slice. don't let them touch.
  3. Fold: Fold the paper over the first slice, then stack the next, or roll it up like a sleeping bag.
  4. Bag: Put the roll in a freezer bag.

Why This Works

Because layers of paper separate the bacon, the slices don't freeze together. You can reach into the bag, peel off exactly two slices for your burger or eggs, and put the rest back.

How Long Does It Last?

The high fat content in bacon means it can go rancid faster than lean meats. Use frozen bacon within 4 months for the best smoky flavor.

Save Your Bacon
